Local Non-profits Join Forces To Support Recovery From The Thomas Fire

MONTECITO, Calif. - July 26, 2019 - Immaculate Heart Community (IHC) and its retreat center, La Casa de Maria and its Center for Spiritual Renewal, supported the efforts of the Center for Regenerative Agriculture (CRA) to renew Ventura County properties still recovering from the Thomas Fire with the donation of a 250-gallon GeoTea compost tea brewer, formally used on the retreat center property.

The GeoTea will be placed at the Rincon-Vitova Insectary in Ventura and combined with volunteer support from Patagonia to serve CRA's Thomas Fire regeneration program. The GeoTea brewer donated by IHC completes the operation expanding capacity for CRA to treat more properties across the region.

"At IHC, we know about the hard work needed to recover from a disaster. Our retreat center was severely damaged in the Montecito mudslide with 14 acres and 9 buildings destroyed, but our GeoTea brewer survived and with CRA, we can put it to work to reestablish what the Thomas Fire destroyed," said Linda Alexander, executive director, IHC. "While we rebuild our retreat center's buildings and programs, our GeoTea can be put to work to help Ventura County recover more."

"The application of compost tea is central to our Thomas Fire regeneration program," said David White, executive director, CRA. "The donation of the GeoTea gives us a fully functional unit, capable of producing a 250-gallon batch of compost tea – dramatically increasing the number of properties we can serve through this program."
