Catching Waves of Peace: New Books on Collective Meditation Respond to Market Need

At a special program commemorating the United Nations International Day of Peace, Peace Centers International, Inc. will launch Waves of Peace: Collective Meditation in Worldwide Practice a new book by Rev Dr Margo Ruark.

The program, Catching the Wave of Peace! The book launch and backstory with authors Rev Dr Margo Ruark and Lawrence J Toliver, begins at 12:30, Sunday, September 30, 2015 at Unity of Charlotte, 401 E. Arrowood Road, Charlotte, NC 28217. Rev David Hulse, Unity of Charlotte, and host of a popular internet radio program, interviews the authors with audience Q&A to follow.

In Waves of Peace, Margo Ruark documents the role of collective meditation in 4 dozen religions and spirituality movements. She postulates that the practice of collective meditation—a spiritual practice—by religions around the world during their regular worship services has the potential to usher in global peace. This major premise is based upon scientific research which validates the positive impact of collective meditation upon such social indicators as accident rates, reported illnesses, crime rates and acts of terrorism.

Waves of Peace is the second book to grow out of the ministrations of the Peace Assembly at Unity of Charlotte, a Christian spiritual community located at 401 East Arrowood Road, Charlotte, 28217. The first book, Here’s Peace! by Lawrence J. Toliver, underscored the claim that peace is readily available to all because “peace accompanies all life”.

Underlying both books is the belief that the collective consciousness of humanity is impacted when people gather in groups with the intention to experience peace of mind and heart.

According to Dr Ruark, when groups choose to meditate for peace, “together they amplify the peace they experience. Throughout the ages, sages of all religious persuasions have demonstrated that peace is a low hanging spiritual fruit—easily accessed by individuals in all cultures of the Earth. Yet, collective meditation for peace is rarely practiced when men and women gather for worship. Waves of Peace urges organized religion to wake up to the potential inherent in collective meditation.” She goes on to say, “Most religions believe that prayer is enhanced when we pray affirmatively; in like manner, peace is enhanced when we meditate collectively.”

The media is invited to attend this special commemoration of the United Nations International Day of Peace at Unity of Charlotte. In addition to the launch of Waves of Peace, the event will be punctuated by original music, a Labyrinth Ceremony and a Peace Walk.
