Utah author hopes to spark imagination with new picture book

AMERICAN FORK, Utah -- Most parents recognize the importance of reading aloud to their children--it's been touted as the single most important activity to promote language development. A good read-aloud story will combine engaging text with stimulating illustrations to keep the attention of a young audience. Pickley Trouble, a whimsical story about a farmer by author and illustrator Julie Carroll, fits that criteria nicely.

"I wanted to do something geared towards children because I know how much books meant to me growing up," says Carroll, a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and the Children’s Literature Association of Utah (CLAU). "I want to spark imaginations and give children a bit of magic, laughter, and joy."

In Pickley Trouble, a man and his wife decide to give farming a try, but quickly get more than they bargained for when their land is overrun with superabundant crops. "My students loved it," says K. Mair, a 2nd grade teacher in Heber City, Utah. "The rhyming words are fun and fantastic. The illustrations are darling."

Pickley Trouble is Carroll's first book, and is being published by Hollingale Books (http://www.hollingale.com). It will be available in late Summer 2015.
