Caring for the Caregiver – a Free Online Teleseminar Series

PHOENIX -- Batiyah Lampl, Ph. D, organization behavioral scientist and publisher of http://ReflectRelateRenew.com (http://reflectrelaterenew.com/) presents a free online Teleseminar Series around the theme of Caring for the Caregiver, April-September, 2015.

The series is designed for family members who find themselves in the position of caregiver for a relative with a mental disorder (includes mental illness and Alzheimer’s/Dementia)

Together, the live interviews will present numerous methods for self-care in a user-friendly format for family caregivers of those with a mental disorder who want information about self-care options to make their lives easier and their care-giving more joyful and peaceful.

Caregivers generally have limited extra time. The Teleseminar Series will showcase 17 presenters who will address ways their expertise can help support the caretaker of a family member with a mental disorder.

The presenters have a great deal of information to share, so the Series is spread over several months, beginning this April. Their specializations represent a wide variety of issues that family caregivers face.

The seminars will be held on various days of the work week, Monday-Friday, all between 1:00 PM and 6:00 EDT. The series begin April 6, 2015, and goes through September 15, 2015.

Each presentation will be about 45-minutes long, with time allotted for Q&A at the end.

Family caregivers of people with mental disorders, who are looking for resources, practices, ideas, and tools to support their ability to take better care of themselves and/or their loved one can use the Series to gain much-needed knowledge.

It can be very difficult to care for someone else, especially if they suffer from an illness; but providing care for those with mental disorders comes with a special set of challenges. Most such patients receive a lot less support from the health care system and their insurance providers, leaving the job up to family members.

Additionally, many people fail to understand mental disorders properly. There’s a strong stigma against mental illness and cognitive disorders that can leave families feeling isolated and afraid. This often happens even when members of the same communities share their experiences.

Lampl states, “Fortunately, caregivers don’t have to simply withstand these difficulties alone. There are things that they can do to help them make it through troubled times. One is to take inventory of how well you manage your own self-care. Take a look at how well are you taking care of your physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual and work/professional well-being. If you find yourself falling short, you aren’t alone.”

These teleseminars were designed to help family caregivers navigate these choppy waters.
