New Version of Telomere Length Test

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A new version of Cell Science Systems’ Telomere Length Test has been recently released. This latest iteration features an affordable price, as well as more complete information on the process and results. Telomere length has long been suspected of having a direct correlation to health and life expectancy, which has made this testing procedure popular as of late. The most recent research available suggests that a diet centered on combating inflammation could be a factor in preventing premature telomere shortening. As a result, identifying and eliminating the foods or ingredients that cause inflammation in an individual’s body can result in heightened longevity expectations.

A recent study conducted at Brigham and Women’s Hospital focused on the relationship between a person’s diet and their subsequent telomere length. The study has since gained international attention in the wake of being published in the December, 2014 issue of the British Medical Journal. 4,676 disease-free women agreed to undergo a basic telomere length test, as well as participate in reporting on their weekly dietary choices. Subjects who followed a diet containing high concentrations of vegetables, fruits, unrefined grains, and nuts were found to have longer length telomeres; which is normally associated with increased health and life expectancy. The results suggest that a diet that avoids processed foods and others known to be highly inflammatory could result in decreased wear on telomeres.

"This research supports our view that diet plays a critical role in overall health and aging. Combining the ALCAT Food Sensitivity Test with Telomere Length testing is a perfect marriage. The ALCAT blood test can help determine which foods and other substances may trigger unwanted inflammation which accelerates telomere attrition,” explained Dr. David Blyweiss, Chief Medical Officer for Cell Science Systems.

Telomeres are the end caps of chromosomes. They exist to guard an organism’s DNA, and ensure proper replication. As a part of the biological process of growth and aging, telomeres shorten in length every time a cell divides. However, more cell division leading to less length, which has been attributed to age-related diseases and decreased longevity. Short telomere length can also be exasperated by inflammation as a result of a poor diet. Cell Science Systems offers the ALCAT Food and Chemical Sensitivity Test to patients that are concerned with halting inflammation in their bodies, and further protecting their telomeres.
