Lee Olive to Participate in Ride to Cure Diabetes in South Carolina

The Ride to Cure Diabetes is here. This year, the local ride is called The Gran Fondo Hincapie, and will be in Greenville, SC, October 23-26th.

Lee Olive, of Olive Law Firm, Charlotte personal injury attorney, is participating in this ride. He has already surpassed his fundraising goal, and is continuing to raise money until the ride.

The JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes offers fundraising and mileage options, training with a USA Cycling certified coach, and ride destinations designed for riders of all fitness levels. Lee Olive participates in the JDRF ride, each year.

"This is an opportunity for me to help fight the battle for Diabetes Type 1. I have diabetes, and also friends and family who are also effected. This is my way of making a difference and helping in the continued research."

The JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes has raised more than $20 million for research to deliver life-changing therapies and one day a cure for T1D. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that impacts millions of people around the world.

T1D statistics:

-3,000,000 - the number of Americans who may have T1D

-85% - the percentage of people in the U.S. living with T1D who are adults

-30,000 - the number of people who are diagnosed with T1D in the U.S. every year - approximately 15,000 children and 15,000 adults

-23% - the increase in T1D incidence in people under age 20 between 2001 and 2009

-$14.9 billion - the healthcare costs of T1D in the U.S. each year
