Installation of New Weather Instruments in Ilocos Norte

DELHI/NCR, India -- In accordance with the state weather bureau, Ilocos Norte has adopted new range of weather instruments with the purpose of knowing the local climatic conditions in a better way.

Many facts were revealed by Engineer Cynthia Iglesias, the chief meteorological officer of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) based in Laoag such as the previous weather instruments were not sufficient to measure the accurate forecast or data. She said,” There are different weather conditions in 21 Towns and 2 cities of the territory at a particular time therefore, each of the towns and cities must have a separate instrument to know the exact climatic condition.”

Of late, automated water level gauges and rain gauges have already been installed in Cauplasan Bridge in Dingras town as well as in Bangkag Bridge in Solsona town. She also cleared that the state had gone through the heavy rainstorm last week however, there was no signal of a storm by the weather stations. Heavy rain falls were experienced with a tropical storm in the region. It affected the Philippine area of management of Automatic weather stations.
Rain gauges have already been located in Batac city on the other hand; mini-weather stations are fixed in Pagudpud town as per her statement.

An automatic weather station or weather instruments are used with the intention of forecasting or measuring the future atmospheric conditions. Such instruments are known as early warning systems. She said” The measurement of different areas regarding weather conditions are automatically recorded in our office.” She also announced the name of the places where new weather instruments are installed. For example, Tamdagan Bridge in Vintar town, have been selected for the installation of combined water level gauge and rain gauge because rain waters easily overflow during heavy rainfall at this place.

There are many other local governments who have asked for the help of project NOAH (Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards) of the existing management for their weather measurement devices. The local governments have decided to get new types of weather instruments installed because the previous instruments do not help to gather the exact information for the weather forecast. As Ilocos Norte has sought new variety of weather instruments, the other countries may also follow the same trend.

The project NOAH is the department of science and Technology’s (DOST) in response to the command of the president Benigno S. Aquino III for more accurate results. This project is considered the most important in disaster prevention and mitigation system especially in high- risk areas in all over the country. The project is integrated and responsive in all aspects on the weather measurement.

A rain gauge measures the rain volume in a particular time and at a specific place. On the contrary, water level gauge is helpful to determine the level of the water bodies. Earlier, the country was using basic instruments but presently, it has developed and using high technique instruments to know the exact forecast of the climate.
