Since debuting on Youtube in 2011 docu-series entitled “What’s the Function” has gather an audience of interactive users engaged in viral conversation. Every other year the series debuts a new cast member(s) and interesting series of events. This unscripted series, displays a raw natural insight on the lives of seven vivacious men living in New York City and Los Angeles as they balance individual careers, romantic relationships, friendships and everyday life.

Thus, during season three cast member Hans, of latin decent, continuously refers to some of his fellow cast mates as “Black Asses.” Which in the season finale, cast Jeremy, of mix ethnic background, addressed the racial term shining light on the stigmatic turn of phrase. Several active users chimed:

latinotop27: what a bs issue jeremy!!!! hans, i agree with you im a mixed latino all tha way, im darker, i say black ass all the time i wish a mixed!!!! biXth would try to check me on that note its 2014 get over it hello...jeremy get over it trying to make something so small into something big ....and no im not racist just giving my opinion

Javaholic Jones: Arrrgh! Jeremy, you should have pulled Hans to the side to have your little battle of the multi-racials over his 'your black ass' usage. Hip hop culture has, unfortunately, made such racially-charged expressions commonplace among the type of crowd displayed in this web series. Juan needs to wear more tanks because his body was looking super delicious in this episode. Hans continue to be you; you are the realest mofo on this show. Blazingly, you dare to take certain stances regardless of how others might perceive your opinions. However, Jeremy's aggressive advice was truly coming from a place of love.
The question is are they right for addressing the issue as such or should it played out in a different manner? Watch the entire season on www.whatsthefunction.com or www.bawn.tv for other great original web series!
