JAIPUR, India -- Open Universities and Universities offering distance learning courses (http://www.utsglobal.edu.in/) can now provide easy collaboration or transit of students to or from traditional degrees of universities. The Distance Education Council (DEC) which was the regulator of online distance education of a non-formal nature is now dissolved to form ‘Distance Education Bureau’ (DEB) which will be headed by the University Grants commission. The regulation of Distance Education Bureau is for enrollments post 29 December 2012.

The initiation of DEB was to enable smooth transition of students from ODL to traditional degrees from universities and vice versa. DEC was in charge for ODL institutes which posed a problem for ODL students to compete with University degrees.

In the past the ODL university degrees or like MBA distance learning (http://www.jnujpronline.edu.in/), Information Technology courses, Hospitality courses (http://www.jnujpronline.edu.in/Online-MBA-Courses) and many such online courses are individually and uniquely designed and posed a problem of uniformity when compared to traditional degrees. The need for having equal prospects requires the implementation of a common bureau that would function to give equal recognition to all the degrees, thus promoting learning.

The significant increase in students enrolling for ODL programs has more than doubled since 1990-91. This growth in learning programs poses a need for its relevance and competence as compared to the orthodox degrees and hence the DEB is more than a reform in modern education. Keeping up with the changing times, when the education experience has transformed to a more liberal form, it is significant to form an educational consistency and quality with flexibility and convenience along with equal recognition.
