SAN FRANCISCO -- Lakehead & Woodland Shaving Oils have just launched with Shaving Oil Club, a service that delivers seasonal, organic shaving oils to your door six times per year. The oils are handmade in San Francisco, CA, by Mikko Jarvenpaa and Essi Salonen. Originally from the forests and lakesides of Finland, Jarvenpaa and Salonen (whose family names translate roughly as "lakehead" and "woodland") work in the tech industry of Silicon Valley, but put together their passions for beautifully designed products and smooth shaving.
"I’ve loved shaving oils ever since I discovered them. The good ones let you shave closely and smoothly, without nicks or bumps. They don’t make a mess, unlike creams, gels and foams. You see where you are shaving. They can smell really good. And they take up so little space! Great for travelling," says Mikko Jarvenpaa of Lakehead & Woodland.
The first scent, Winter Bergamot, is a mix of organic essential oils such as bergamot, rosemary and tea tree, carried with fine and skin-soothing oils like jojoba and grapeseed oil.
Shaving Oil Club delivers one new 1/2 oz bottle of seasonally crafted shaving oils every two months. "We've calculated each bottle to hold approximately 450 drops – or more actually, but to be safe. If you were to shave every day, you could use 7.5 drops per shave. Though I don't know what's a half a drop, really," says Jarvenpaa.
To make things easiest for you, or your loved one, an annual subscription is $99. You can also pay $19 every two months. The end result is the same – one new shaving oil bottle every two months, cancel anytime. Shipping to the US is included.
The company even promises to reuse and recycle the bottles after a year. "Our bottles are 100% recyclable. You can recycle them the traditional way, but you can also request a pre-paid recycling envelope from us at the end of a year. That way, as we develop new bottles, we can keep re-using them."
