ST. LOUIS -- Not everyone is going to websites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo to host their crowdfunding campaigns. Power Up, located in St Louis, Missouri, is raising capital by managing its own crowdfunding campaign. They are hosting the crowdfunding on www.Powerupstl.com and are accepting pre-payments for items like drinks, parties, and sandwiches to help fund their location on the Delmar Loop.
“People have been talking about an arcade in the Loop for a long time now. We found the perfect location and opportunity to try and make the dream a reality.” explained Power Up’s founder Chris Halenkamp. “Power Up is focused on blending St. Louis’s best beer, artwork, and creativity while powering up the community around it. We plan to sponsor crowdfunding campaigns and make contributions to organizations like Operation Food Search."
Power Up is serious about their local focus. The bread for their sandwiches will be provided by Cherokee Street’s Black Bear Bakery and each sandwich is matched with a local craft beer. Their beer selection, coffee, bread, food distributor, and architect are all locally based. They also plan to provide arcade cabinets, comics, board games, and graphic novels from St. Louis based developers.
“We are aiming to gather a lot of the recent creative development in St. Louis into one space. There have been crowdfunding campaigns for a huge spectrum of artwork and music created in St. Louis. We want to put the focus on these types of projects and give them a location to shine. If we are able raise the money through the community a huge focus would be helping others pursue similar dreams. Meanwhile you will also be able to enjoy a beer or play one of your favorite video games.”
Power Ups, the name of the vouchers, are available for purchase on www.Powerupstl.com ranging from $1-$9000 with the majority ranging from $1-$1200. An individual can purchase something as simple as quarters for classic arcade games or as grandiose as the entire 500 person capacity venue for three hours. For those who can’t be there for the launch party or live outside of St. Louis, there are options like purchasing a percentage of future profits to donate to charities or fund other crowdfunding campaigns.
