AHMEDABAD, India -- SPEC INDIA recently completed a migration task for one of the project developed in latest RIA framework named Vaadin. It was implemented previously on Vaadin version 6.8.3 and we have migrated it to the latest version 7.1.4. This application is hosted on Google App Engine and can be used by any potential customer. Though Vaadin's latest version 7 is compatible with the earlier version 6, there are a few changes that need to be done and should be taken care of while migration.
Followings are the significant points the developers have to think about while moving to Vaadin 7:
1. CustomField: There are some CustomFileld add-ons which are right now not supported in Vaadin 7.
2. WidgetSet: WidgetSet needs to be handled differently in Vaadin 7.
3. Theme: There will be definitely some changes related to theme. However, there is a way to use the old Vaadin theme using legacy-style support.
4. Browser Compatibility: Vaadin 6 support IE6 and IE7. However, Vaadin 7 supports IE8 onwards.
5. Forms: There is an improvement in Vaadin 7 for better customization and useability. There might be few changes to make things better.

Eventually for us, it was seamless journey from Vaadin 6 to Vaadin 7 and customer is very happy with our approach and the way we managed this activity. Currently some more functional features are being added as a part of the project and on competing of these, the release will be deployed on production.
