FDM Group continues to champion women worldwide

Top Ten IT Employer for Women, FDM Group, has today revealed a further increase to its growing female workforce. The IT services provider, whose wider industry has a mere 17% average of females in the sector, has risen above the statistic announcing that 24% of its global workforce are women.

Of this achievement, FDM’s Chief Operating Officer, Sheila Flavell, said, “I am delighted that we have reached such a landmark for our global workforce. I am very proud of the vital role women play in our organisation; they make outstanding contributions every day, without which the growth of FDM may have taken considerably longer.”

Spearheaded by Flavell, FDM launched its dedicated Women in IT campaign in 2011, which aims to encourage and support women in business and IT at all levels of seniority: from entry-level roles to opening the pipeline for female presence in the boardroom.

“It’s no secret that the IT industry is extremely male dominated and it is therefore our aim to encourage more women to see IT as a rewarding career that they can excel in and showcase the cast support network within the IT sector,” continues Flavell.

Since its launch, FDM’s Women in IT campaign has gone from strength to strength, firmly establishing the company as an employer who is committed to attracting, recruiting and retaining women in the IT industry.

The campaign involves a number of initiatives including a dedicated Female Champions mentoring programme and holding regular ‘Women in IT Advantage Sessions.’ These events offer women who are interested in pursuing an IT career, with the opportunity to network with industry professionals and gain insight into what their professional future might have in store for them.

On the back of the campaign’s success, FDM has signed The UKRC CEO Charter for its commitment to women in STEM, joined the Government’s Think, Act, Report initiative that encourages organisations to be more transparent with diversity figures, and signed the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles, sealing its commitment to promoting gender diversity in the workplace and wider business community.

Boasting a female majority across its management team, FDM is committed to championing women in IT worldwide at a time when research has revealed that 70% of technology leaders believe they are missing vital skills due to low female representation*.
