Samsung Electronics Levant Supports Petra National Trust

Samsung Electronics Levant, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, announced its support to Petra National Trust organization, by supplying them with GALAXY Tab 2 devices, to empower the participating children and youth in the Junior Rangers Program workshops conducted by PNT in Petra region for kids ages between 7 – 15 years.

Within its global campaign “Hope for Children”, Samsung’s support stems from its firm belief in the importance of children’s health and education. Samsung’s support to “Junior Rangers Program” workshops held in Rajef and Baida areas and “Youth Engagement Petra (YEP) Program” will be utilized through the tablets and its applications in the workshops to teach the kids and widen their horizons within the unlimited digital world and enable them to access information in the quickest and most advanced methods.

HRH Princess Dina Feras, the Vice Chairman of PNT commented: “We are very grateful to Samsung Electronics Levant support and for enriching the Junior Rangers Program, and elevate the participants’ knowledge and understanding towards preserving the archaeological, environmental and cultural heritage of the city of Petra by using modern technology”, “The Youth are the leaders of the future, and we hope that the impact of the program will also reach the participant’s families and internal communities. As this program is designed to create a generation that believes in the need to protect Petra’s unique heritage. And we at PNT hope that this generation will be a partner in the decision making process, giving a great opportunity to expand and provide a comprehensive and strong base for collective work among all stakeholders in the field of educating young people about heritage across the region.” She added.

He added.

The National Petra Trust has developed the workshops curriculum in-house, specifically to meet the needs of young people in the communities surrounding the Petra World Heritage site, to instill a sense of identity and pride in Petra’s cultural and natural heritage, and inspire a commitment to preserving and protecting Petra’s significance and values, in addition to developing responsible behaviors around sustainable tourism. The Junior Rangers program is an interactive workshop that introduces participants to the culture (peoples, traditions, and practices), history and values of Petra. PNT employs the methodology of critical thinking skills and civic engagement through an inquiry-based learning approach. The workshops programs’ are distinguished by adopting the constructive educational environment based on the scientific research as the basis for success.

While the “Youth Engagement Petra (YEP)” Program is a series of civic engagement activities aimed at maintaining the continuity and momentum created by the Junior Rangers program, focusing on two elements: instilling a greater understanding of the themes related to the values and significance of Petra, and fostering socially responsible behaviors. The program is designed to combine the activities of civic engagement with learning experiences associated with maintaining the heritage to increase social awareness among young people, in addition to protecting the values ​​that underlie the importance of Petra, support the development of skills among young people, such as strengthening team spirit, responsible behaviors, problem solving and many others through specially designed activities implemented throughout the workshops.
It is worth mentioning that the Petra National Trust is a non-governmental organization dedicated to the preservation of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra, through maintenance, restoration projects and awareness programs implemented in the region, which aims to raise awareness among young people to bridge the gap between community and heritage associated with this site, the initiative has graduated 216 participants and volunteers from the program since its foundation in 2010
