For the followers of Hinduism, the annual pilgrimage of Amarnath Yatra to the holy shrine of Amarnath Cave is one of the most sacred pilgrimages. The holy cave is devoted to Lord Shiva which is located in the northern state, i.e. in Jammu and Kashmir. The holy pilgrimage commences from the month of May to August, when the Indian government opened it for the devotees for worship and visit the holy shrine.

The magnificent holy cave of Amarnath is located at a height of 3888m and fully engulfed inside the snow all over the year. During the summer, the snow melts from the rocks which lead to the formation of ice stalagmite inside the cave. This stalagmite inside the cave is known as the Shivlinga. Other two ice formations inside the cave are regarded as Goddess Parvati and God Ganesha.

The pilgrimage will start around the Shravani Mela in July 2013-August 2013. The time period of Amarnath Yatra will coincide with holy month Shraavana.

For Amaranth Yatra, you have to embark your journey via bus/train/plane for the state of Jammu & Kashmir. In order to reach Srinagar, you can go for some car rental services. From Pahalgam, the actual pilgrimage commences and run for almost 5 days, where devotees travel by foot. For those who can’t walk on foot, can avail helicopter services for the cave! For the comfort of pilgrims, various NGOs have provided tents and foods to make their visit bit comfortable in such tough conditions.
