Types of Wigs for Women

Long ago in ancient Egypt, people of all ages and genders commonly wore human hair wigs. When wigs first became popular, only women of royalty were allowed to wear wigs made of long hair that was divided into three sections. As time passed, these wigs were worn my commoners, as well. Over the years, wigs of many different styles were created, and wig styles have changed with the times. Today, you will find wigs made of human hair and synthetic hair.
Human-Hair Wigs
1. Most human hair wigs are made from thick, straight Asian hair that is a dark color and must be styled after each washing and will require that you wash it with a shampoo made for human hair wigs and condition it with a special conditioner.
Wigs Made of Synthetic Hair
2. A wig made of synthetic hair is made of man-made fibers and is a popular type of wig because it does not have to be styled after it's washed, it's less expensive than a human hair wig, it has more styles to choose from than a human hair wig does, and it won't deteriorate as quickly as a human hair wig will, unless heating devices are used to style it with.
The Wig Cap
3. How the cap of a wig is made determines the wigs styling capabilities and the look the wig will give. If the fibers are hand-tied and mesh is used, the wig will look more natural as the scalp will show through if a part is made.
Hair Pieces
4. If a full wig is not what you need, wig makers offer a variety of hairpieces, such as clip-on pieces that add more hair to an up-do, ponytail pieces, braids, bangs and falls that clip onto the back of the head.
Everyday Wig Styles
5. Wig styles are forever changing, but curly, straight, long, short and medium length wigs can easily be found in just about any color.
Party Wigs
6. If you're going to a party, you may want to wear a costume wig made to resemble the hairstyle of a celebrity or famous person, a wig that focuses on a popular hairstyle of the past, or a party wig like a purple afro or an orange spiky hairdo.
