David W. Stewart,PhD,Honored for Significant Contributions to the Fields of Education and Marketing

SPRING HILL, TN, June 10, 2024 - David Stewart has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Stewart has established himself as a distinguished figure in the fields of marketing, psychology, statistics, higher education, and public policy. through a career marked by dedication and innovation. He currently serves a variety of clients as a consultant and strategic advisor at Stewart Associates, a position he has held since 1980. He also holds the honored title of professor emeritus, after serving as the President's Professor of Marketing and Business Law at Loyola Marymount University from 2012 to 2021.

Prior to these positions, Dr. Stewart served as a visiting professor at Leeds University Business School in the United Kingdom in 2018 and as dean of the School of Business Administration and the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Riverside from 2007 to 2011, where he continues to hold the title of emeritus professor. He also spent 21 years in the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California (1986-2007, where he served in various administrative and faculty roles including Deputy Dean, the chair of the department of marketing, and Robert Brooker Professor of Marketing. From 1980 to 1986 he was a faculty in the Own Graduate School of Management where he also served as senior associate dean for academic affairs. Early in his career he was also a research manager for Needham, Harper, and Steers Advertising (now DDB).

Dr. Stewart has authored or co-authored more than 350 publications in academic and professional journals and 22 books. Among his recent books are Financial Dimensions of Marketing Decisions, Accountable Marketing: Linking Marketing Actions to Financial Performance, Maladaptive Consumer Behavior: Theory, Behavior, and Intervention, A Primer on Consumer Behavior, and three volumes of the Handbook of Persuasion and Social Marketing.

Dr. Stewart has served as editor of the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, and the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing. He is a past-president of the Society for Consumer Psychology, a past president of the Academic Council of the American Marketing Association, and a past chair of the Section on Statistics in Marketing of the American Statistical Association. He has also served as a member of the Board of the American Marketing Association and the American Marketing Association Foundation, as Vice president for Publications and as Vice president of Finance for the American Marketing Association, as a member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Marketing Science, and as a member of the American Psychological Association's Council of Representatives.

In addition to his academic and professional pursuits, Dr. Stewart is involved in various civic activities, most notably serving as founding chair of the Marketing Accountability Standards Board (MASB) since 2007. He has been instrumental in enabling the organization to achieve its goal of making marketing accountable and demonstrating the role that the marketing function plays in generating revenue and facilitating business growth. He considers his work with the MASB to be among his more notable achievements of his career. He has served as a consultant to numerous businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and government agencies, including two terms as a member of the Joint Advisory Committee of Professional Associations to the United States Census Bureau.

Dr. Stewart's earned a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Arts in psychology from Baylor University after initially receiving his BA in the same field of study from Northeast Louisiana University. He has been recognized for his many accomplishments with diverse awards, including being named a Fellow of the American Marketing Association, a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, and a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his academic and professional contributions including the Margaret H. Blair Award for Marketing Accountability conferred by the Marketing Accountability Standards Board, the Chinese Scholar Marketing Association Fellow Award for Outstanding Contribution to Marketing Scholarship in China and Beyond, the Ingolstadt Legacy Award for Business and Economics in Service of Humanity, Awarded by City of Ingolstadt and Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, the "Marketing and Society Lifetime Achievement Award" from the Marketing and Society Special Interest Group (MASSIG) of the American Marketing Association, the Chairman's Award from the Riverside Chambers of Commerce for contributions to the economic development of the City of Riverside), the Elsevier Distinguished Marketing Scholar by the Society for Marketing Advances, the Cutco/Vector Distinguished Marketing Educator Award from the Academy of Marketing Science, and the Ivan Preston Outstanding Contribution to Research Award from the American Academy of Advertising, among others.

In his personal life, Dr. Stewart enjoys traveling and spending time with his family. Looking to the future, he plans to continue contributing to the fields of marketing, higher education and economic development through writing and consulting. With several books already in the planning stages, he aims to further enrich discussions on these topics while broadening his impact on the business profession at large.
