Inroads To Opportunities Celebrated National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

April 02, 2024 - Inroads to Opportunities, a Union County, NJ based non-profit human services agency, that provides programs and services to individuals with disabilities recently celebrated National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (March) with an Awards Luncheon at their Roselle, NJ headquarters.

The luncheon was an incredible success! Numerous community leaders from the area were in attendance and addressed the audience and recipients.

This year, Certificates of Appreciation were presented to The Hyde and Watson Foundation; The Columbia Bank Foundation: The Union County Heart Grant; The Westfield Service League; Ms. Julienne Cherry, President & CEO of United Way Greater Union County; Ms. Deana Mesaros, Director of Division of Strategic Planning at Union County Department of Economic Development, and Ms. Gina P. Iosim, Director of Community Prosecution Division at Union County Prosecutor's Office.

According to Angela Calzone, Inroads’ President & CEO, “This luncheon was a true testament to what can be accomplished when the community and organizations come together unconditionally to help society. I want to thank everyone for this fantastic opportunity to recognize the importance of National Disability Awareness Month, our community leaders and Inroads’ fabulous staff. This never could have been accomplished without the support and dedication of everyone.”

National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is held in March and provides understanding, encouragement, and opportunities to help persons with disabilities lead productive and fulfilling lives. Inroads is dedicated to raising awareness about the support and rights of people with disabilities and celebrating their contributions to our communities and society.

ABOUT INROADS TO OPPORTUNITIES:
Since 1959, Inroads to Opportunities, formerly the Occupational Center of Union County, has provided programs and services to over 400 individuals each year with all types of disabilities and ranging in age from 16 through retirement– many of whom are economically disadvantaged. Programs and services include vocational preparation, transition from school to work, certificate training programs, day habilitation, and mental health services.

Celebrating its 65th year, Inroads to Opportunities is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an approved provider of the NJ Department of Labor, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, and Commission of the Blind and Visually Impaired. Inroads is licensed by the State of New Jersey Department of Human Services, NJ Division of Mental Health, and Addiction Services to provide partial care and Division of Developmental Disabilities to provide Day Habilitation, Pre-Vocational and Transportation Services. Inroads is an approved Medicaid provider and an approved Employment Network under the Ticket to Work Social Security initiative and an approved Benefits Planning and Counseling Service through the NJ Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
