Hairstyles from the Great Gatsby Era

Long awaited book on Art Deco Hairstyles by Daniela Turudich (published by Streamline Press), released to coincide with new film The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Fans have been waiting for the new book from Daniela Turudich, for nearly a decade. Turudich has written a new book on Art Deco Hair (Hairstyles from the 1920s and 1930s) and it just happens to coincide with the release of the blockbuster film The Great Gatsby. Both the book and film reflect the growing interest and fascination in popular culture with the Art Deco Period.

"People are realizing that there were many beautiful things in our past...that have unfortunately been forgotten about except by a select few. The Art Deco Period was rich and vibrant and I’m glad that people are getting a glimpse into it,” says Daniela Turudich.

“Many of our modern day ideas of beauty were formulated during this very important time period. Many of the styles stuck and still resonate with a lot of women -- even after several decades,” Daniela says.

ART DECO HAIR

Art deco has long been associated with uncompromising style and sophistication, and this guide to re-creating the sassy, controversial styles of the 1920s and ’30s offers a glimpse back at the hairstyles of this era. The instructions needed to replicate these fashions on the modern woman—from the controversial bob of the Roaring Twenties flapper to the luxurious finger waves of Hollywood’s early screen stars—are provided, and the techniques behind Marcel and water waves, the simple bob, Eton and shingle cuts, and many more are also included. Hundreds of vintage illustrations, photographs, step-by-step instructions, and diagrams illuminate the history of the hairstyles that laid the groundwork of style for the modern American woman.
