Blanca Lorena Villarreal Guerra, PhD Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Robotics Engineering

REDMOND, WA, October 02, 2023 - Blanca L. Villarreal Guerra has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Inspired by her father, Jorge Antonio Villarreal Garza, an engineer, and her mother, Blanca Estela Guerra García, Dr. Villarreal Guerra presently excels as associate professor and chair of the electrical and computer engineering department for DigiPen Institute of Technology, where she has taught undergraduate students since 2016. Over the years, she has also lent her considerable knowledge to several articles and conference papers, including "Haptically assisted chemotaxis for odor source localization," "Synthesis of odor tracking algorithms with genetic programming" and "Perception model for the aspiration process of a biologically-inspired sniffing robot." Her work on the design of a biologically inspired nose for search and rescue robotics has a patent granted in Mexico and the US. Along with other industry scholars, Dr. Villarreal Guerra has been published in several journals such as SN Applied Sciences, Neurocomputing, and IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics.

Before embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Villarreal Guerra earned a Bachelor of Science in mechatronics engineering and a PhD in robotics and artificial intelligence from Tec de Monterrey. Outside of her research and academic work, she has dedicated herself to her professional development through certifications and service activities such as outreach, diversity, and accreditation committees at DigiPen. Driven to remain abreast of ongoing industry changes, Dr. Villarreal Guerra maintains affiliation with several organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Previously, Dr. Villarreal Guerra was a Research Specialist at the Center of Robotics and Intelligent Systems at Tec de Monterrey, and a Professor and Researcher of robotics and embedded systems at Universidad de Monterrey, where she remains an affiliate fellow.

In light of her professional accomplishments, Dr. Villarreal Guerra received the Innovators under 35 Award from MIT in 2014 and participated on the Leaders in Innovation Fellowship program offered by the Royal Academy of Engineering in collaboration with the University of Oxford in 2015. While her career has been filled with highlights thus far, she takes the most pride in the design and prototypes of the sniffing robot she created biologically inspired on how the human and canine nose works. The cornerstone of her success lies in her hard work, motivation, and passion for what she does while having full support from her spouse Eden Alejandro Alanis Reyes and her family. Within the next five to ten years, Dr. Villarreal Guerra intends to continue growing, teaching, and gaining additional experience in the industry.
