Nicolai Canetti Celebrated for Achievement in Design

NEW YORK, NY, August 16, 2023 - Nicolai Canetti has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Canetti is a true design pioneer celebrating more than 50 years of creativity and innovation. He holds degrees in graphic design and photography and began his career internationally before settling in the United States. Often called "renaissance man" with an interest in design across many disciplines, Mr. Canetti has found success in teaching, advertising, stage design, graphic design, photography, and product design. He has lived and worked on three continents, speaks five languages, and considers himself an international resident.

Mr. Canetti established the Canetti Design Group in 1980 as a means to design, produce, and market products with detailed control over the quality of his innovations. Founded with the core belief that good design should be enjoyed by all, in everyday life, he created numerous award-winning innovative office and home accessories, as well as furniture, and personal accessories products.

The Canetti Design Group is best known for its iconic eighties Artime and Moderntime clock collections, the first of a "different looking clock", with many jumping on the bandwagon since. Another achievement he is proud of being the first to designer to create functional bags and accessories truly and uniquely for working women. On the other side of the spectrum, in the nineties he created the runway hit, the SoftPhone, a very popular whimsical telephone, very popular in the nineties, as well as numerous other categories.

Mr. Canetti also created one of the first "frameless photo frame" – the award-winning patented Geo Frame, followed by the Acrylo Frame, and finally the Original Magnet Frame, considered the "ultimate frameless frame" and still one of the most popular modern photo frames worldwide, 40 years after its conception.

Prior to founding the Canetti Design Group in the U.S., Mr. Canetti was an Associate Professor of Design and Photography at the University of Nairobi, in Kenya, where he also started his own advertising agency with clients such as Kenya Air and the Kenya Ministry of Tourism. As a photographer, Mr. Canetti contributed to over 20 books, including while in Kenya, The Book of Lions, The Book of Elephants, and In the Shadow of Kilimanjaro, and after arriving to the United States, a collection of worldwide city publications, including but not limited to, The Pavements of New York, The Rooftops of Paris, and The Streets of San Francisco. Among other accomplishments in the publication world, Mr. Canetti was one of the founders and served as Art Director at Madison Avenue Magazine, a premier advertising trade publication, as well as Single World Magazine. He is currently working on three new photography books.

One of the most successful publications Mr. Canetti created was an immensely popular funny little book called Count Sheep, which instead of words had hundreds of small little sheep to count. This uniquely different book, was featured in every major channel and publication in the U.S.

He is proud to have built his career from the ground up and to have found success in several design niches by always having the curiosity and open mind to look around for what's missing in the marketplace, and what products need to be brought up to date in looks and functionality for everyday use. Many of his creations, such as his post-modern clocks, and his frameless frames are celebrated as milestones in contemporary design in their respective categories and are reassessed as collector's vintage art pieces. Some of his products are placed in museums around the world, and he is the owner of numerous patents and trademarks worldwide.

Mr. Canetti has also been involved in several different yet still creative paths, being among the firsts to improve quality of life for many, through large-scale design projects in such fields as solar and wind energy, as well as self-contained natural habitat real estate projects in emerging markets such as Eastern Europe.

He continues to supervise new product designs for the Canetti Design Group and has begun to devote more time to create a "Retro" CANETTI site with 50 years of innovations as well as a long overdue biography spanning a lifetime of worldwide accomplishments. Outside his widespread work, Mr. Canetti is a lover and supporter of global wildlife protection efforts.
