Margaret Helen Farris Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Education

BROOKLYN, NY, June 09, 2023 - Margaret Farris has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Backed by years of expertise in education, Ms. Farris presently serves as a learning specialist and curriculum fellow for Achievement First Crown Heights Elementary School, where she serves as a reading specialist for kindergarten through second grade. Similarly, she teaches phonics, decoding, and the basics of reading in integrated co-teaching. Previously, she worked for the school as a kindergarten social studies and science teacher, and a first-grade special education teacher. During the early stages of her career, Ms. Farris gained valuable expertise in the field as a reading teacher for Santa Maria Catholic School, an afternoon assistant for Friends Seminary, and as an after-school kindergarten teacher for the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.

Outside of her work, Ms. Farris contributes to her community by donating to Planned Parenthood's Human Rights Campaign and as a member of the St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, she aligns herself with the International Literacy Association and the Leadership Fellows Program. An expert in her field, she holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education with a minor in American studies from Skidmore College and a Master of Arts in literacy and reading education from New York University.

While her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Farris is most proud of being a member of the "reading revolution." She was trained based on the research of well-known researchers in literacy learning and reading education. Today, she focuses on teaching via Wilson and Foundation. In the next five years, Ms. Farris intends to codify an intervention routine or model and provide easier access for teachers to help them executive and implement lesson plans faster in order to teach more effectively and efficiently.
