Since 2020, she has found much success as an independent mental health counselor of her telehealth counseling business. In addition to her main vocation, she has excelled as a manager at The Standard, a disability insurance company, as of 2012. In this capacity, she is responsible for overseeing a team of behavioral health case managers. Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Villar has served at an Assertive Community Treatment center and has been active as an individual and a group counselor for patients diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illnesses, and as a transitional intensive case manager for incarcerated individuals.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Villar pursued an education at the City University of New York Lehman College, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in 1996. She continued her academic efforts at the Nova Southeastern University in Florida, earning a Master of Science in mental health counseling in 2000. As a commitment to her field, Ms. Villar has been licensed as a mental health counselor in the State of New York and has contributed to the Psychology Today magazine.
Among her professional accomplishments, Ms. Villar is most proud of the methodical progression of her career and the clinical expertise that she has garnered working with diverse populations, including individuals, couples and family units, as well as the inpatient inmates with severe and persistent mental illnesses within the penitentiary system. Reflecting on her achievements, she attributes much of her success to her drive, persistence, ability to change, grow, adapt and learn, as well as her dedication to her patients. Looking toward the future, Ms. Villar aspires to expand the scope of her telehealth counseling business into a full-time profession.
