Now retired, Dr. Cornet began his career as a professor of physical and historical geology with Dona Ana Branch Community College and New Mexico State University. Subsequently, he joined Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company, now known as Raytheon Technologies Corporation, and Caring Electric Company. Over the years, he gained valuable expertise in education, geology, and consulting with such companies as Gulf Research & Development Company, Exxon USA, Geminoil, Inc., and Superior Oil Company. Through his work, Dr. Cornet specialized in cases involving the Late-Triassic-Early Jurassic period, Gulf Coast over-pressured zones, the Porcupine Basin, and more.

Between 1985 and his retirement in 2008, Dr. Cornet honed his expertise in geological modeling, geophysical interpretation, and palynological sampling and analysis as an independent geological consultant, postdoctoral researcher through Columbia University, a chief consulting geologist, and as a staff associate for Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, he began teaching before the turn of the century, working as an MCAT instructor in 1999. Additionally, Dr. Cornet lent his considerable experience to such institutions as Lors Studio, the Raritan Valley Community College, and El Paso Community College. Since retiring in 2008, Dr. Cornet has focused his energy on writing, authoring such works as "Unconventional Aerial Phenomena: In the Hudson and Wallkill River Valley of New York" and a memoir.

An expert in his field, Dr. Cornet completed coursework in zoology and pre-medical studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology from the University of Connecticut. Subsequently, he received a Master of Science in paleobotany and botany from his alma mater and a PhD in palynology and geology from The Pennsylvania State University. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Cornet aligned himself with such organizations as the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the American Association of Stratigraphic Palynologists, The Botanical Society of America, and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society.

Due to his expansive knowledge, Dr. Cornet has also curated and co-curated collections for the Virginia Museum of Natural History, the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences, and Rocky Hill Dinosaur Park. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in winning the Context Award from the Journal of Research on Life In the Universe, serving as an integral part of the largest National Science Foundation funded, continental coring project on the East Coast, which unearthed the first detailed history of the earth's climate preceding and during the early age of dinosaurs, and discovering angiosperm fossils in rocks of at least 110 million years old. The cornerstone of his success lay in his insatiable curiosity about the world. In the coming years, Dr. Cornet aims to author dozens more scientific research papers.
