LOS ANGELES, CA, July 15, 2022 - KAILASA Sripuram Sarvajnapeetam celebrated Bonalu on the second Sunday of Hindu month of Ashada, with devotees trooping into the temple to celebrate the festival unique to the Telangana region. After a ritualistic ceremony at the temple, Yellamma Devi went on a procession along with a 3-foot high tower known as thottelu, blessing the whole village.
Bonalu is a Telangana traditional Hindu festival centered on Devi Parashakthi (Mahakali, Yellamma, Pochamma, etc). This festival is celebrated annually in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, as well as in other parts of the Telangana state.
"Bonam" is made as an offering to Devi. Women prepare rice cooked with milk and jaggery (unprocessed sugar) in a new brass or earthen pot adorned with neem leaves, turmeric, vermilion and a lit lamp on top of the pot. Women carry the pots on their heads and make an offering of the Bonam along with turmeric-vermilion, bangles and sari to the Devi across the temples.
The ancient Hindu ritual of fire walking was also offered to Yellamma Devi. Hinduism uses every possibility to enlighten. One exotic and seemingly extreme practice that yields instant results is the ancient Hindu practice of Thimithi (Fire Walking). The SPH Nithyananda Paramashivam is reviving the ancient sacred Hindu practices and rituals such as fire walking, while bringing modern scientific understanding.
When our body senses threat, and is in fight or flight mode, it is wide open to be reprogrammed. It is in such threatening situations that we first unconsciously make limiting decisions that bind us for life. When we consciously choose to enter into this practice in remembrance of our Guru or Ishta Devata, primal energies such as fear, violence, lust and other animalistic tendencies frozen in our muscle memories are transmuted to higher cognitions of devotion or bhakthi, surrender and love for our Ishta Devata or Guru.
With this understanding, Kailasavasis, devotees and disciples underwent this sacred practice and experienced dramatic breakthroughs in their spiritual journey.
On this auspicious day of Yellamma Devi Bonalu, KAILASA® Sripuram Sarvajnapeetam offered Annadanam (free organic food) to hundreds of people.
