BALTIMORE, MD, May 10, 2022 - Indie-game darling Backpack Hero smashed its original $20,000 Kickstarter raising over $223,000 by its conclusion on May 6th. The campaign was supported by over 9,000 backers. The Backpack Hero Discord server has grown to over 7,000 members.
The game is self described as the "inventory management roguelike". It uses an inventory system reminiscent of Deus Ex, Diablo, or Resident Evil, but the placement of items determines their effect. This system leads to surprising strategic depth and players spend hours creating their own arrangements of items. The unique gameplay has been warmly received. Backpack Hero has been a surprise hit on gaming website Itch.io where it is being played by hundreds of thousands of players weekly and is the highest rated roguelike game on the site.
Backpack Hero will release on Steam in April 2023 although many backers from Kickstarter will be receiving keys this week to continue playing the game during development. A Nintendo Switch version is also planned for later in 2023.
