In Menace in the Mist Cally and Giles act as citizen scientists - proving that science does not have to be carried out in laboratories. By definition citizen science is the involvement of the public, individual people, in scientific research, whether community-driven or global. Author Janet Wylie hopes to inspire legions of new citizen scientists with this book.

Wylie is a developmental biologist by training and a mother by nature. She enjoys writing for kids way more than writing to publish data. She hopes to inspire kids’ love of reading as well as to explore the real-world challenges kids face in a world of growing environmental and personal problems.
