United Federation of Teachers (UFT) Endorses Nantasha Williams, Education Community Support Grows

QUEENS, N.Y. - April 6, 2021 - The influential teachers union, United Federation of Teachers (UFT), has endorsed Nantasha Williams's campaign to be elected as District 27 Councilwoman for New York City Council. In a statement released March 23rd, President Michael Mulgrew shares his support behind Williams.

"Nantasha Williams is an effective community advocate and public school supporter," says UFT President Michael Mulgrew. "We need voices like hers on the City Council to help our city rebuild after the pandemic."

Nantasha is an active aunt, daughter, and sister living in Cambria Heights, New York. Williams knows the importance of quality childcare and public education provided by UFT members.

"As a graduate of the public school education system, I understand the role and responsibility UFT plays in helping to strengthen our communities and educating our children," says Nantasha Williams. "This pandemic has had detrimental impacts on the education system. We have had to adjust and adapt during these unprecedented times. I am in awe of all of the educators that are continuing to pour into our youth. We must continue to support them now and as we prepare for reopenings in New York. This is an incredibly meaningful endorsement and I am honored to have the support of UFT as I run for City Council. I look forward to reinvigorating our school system and ensuring equity."

Williams is the only candidate to receive the UFT endorsement to represent District 27.

About UFT

The UFT, which represents nearly 200,000 members, is the sole bargaining agent for most of the non-supervisory educators who work in the New York City public schools.
