Houston Native And Pro Athlete, John Williams, Gives Back To His Community

HOUSTON - March 28, 2021 - Houstonite and professional football player, John Williams recently partnered with the Houston Food Bank to help do some good and give back to his community. Community is very important to John and he gets involved with various community organizations and events as often as he can.

John Williams, currently signed with the Sioux Falls Storm of the Indoor Football League (IFL), knows how important community is, especially when it comes to disasters and helping each other out. He went through Hurricane Harvey's devastation in 2017 and most recently, the ice storm with freezing temps just last month that affected the state of Texas. Being through these events and seeing how his neighbors and community came together has given him a greater appreciation for helping others.

"Our community has been through a lot this past year," said Williams. "Anything I can do to help my neighbors get back on their feet I will do."

The Houston Food Bank strives to provide food and meals to the community through generous donations and volunteers. More than 1.1 million people in the 18 southeast Texas counties served by Houston Food Bank are considered food insecure, meaning they lack consistent access to enough nutritious food to fuel a healthy life. In order to address this issue, the Houston Food Bank distributes food and other essentials to those in need through a network of 1,500 community partners. In addition, we also provide programs and services aimed at helping families achieve long-term stability including nutrition education, job training, health management, and help in securing state-funded assistance. They couldn't do what they do without that help.

"I had a great time at the Houston Food Bank," John said. "While there, we built disaster boxes and home delivery kits. It was a wonderful experience and I encourage everyone to take just a few hours out of their month to volunteer their time helping their community."
