Illumio appoints David Shephard as VP of sales in APAC

Illumio, the leading provider of end-to-end Zero Trust segmentation, today announced a senior appointment to further drive its enterprise customer growth and fast track its footprint in key markets.

David Shephard joins Illumio as Vice President of APAC to build upon the company’s success, expand the enterprise and government customer base in key APAC markets and drive the next phase of growth for Illumio and its channel partners in the region. David brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Illumio, having worked in the enterprise technology and cyber security space for the past 20 years.

“Illumio has seen impressive expansion in the diverse APAC region, which remains a key growth area for us,” said Jim Love, chief revenue officer at Illumio. “Demand for our industry-leading segmentation technology continues to rise as enterprises look to secure their services in an increasingly digital world. With the effect of the global pandemic requiring much of the world to work from home, the importance of cohesive security solutions from the data centre to the endpoint has never been greater. I’m delighted to welcome David to the team at this pivotal time for us, and look forward to watching him build upon the region’s success.”

“It’s an incredibly exciting time to be joining Illumio”, said David Shephard, VP at Illumio APAC. “While many traditional approaches to cybersecurity are being tested way beyond their limits, Illumio’s end-to-end security segmentation technology is a perfect example of a solution that can transform how businesses tackle the issue of staying protected despite a constantly changing IT and cyber threat landscape. I’m thrilled to be at a company with such an innovative and unique approach to solving really hard security problems for customers by helping them implement Zero Trust strategies.”

Illumio conducted research into the net effects of the global pandemic on IT professionals in December 2020.

The targeted survey, conducted over Twitter, garnered over 66,500 responses and includes insights into the priorities of IT professionals as we head into 2021.

“We know that 2020 was an incredibly tough year for almost every industry,” said Shephard. “Illumio recently conducted a global survey targeted at IT professionals, the majority of whom are based in APAC, which revealed only 21.3 percent of IT projects remain unaffected at the end of 2020, and those projects were almost all infrastructure initiatives. More concerning is the anticipation of budget cuts, with over 40 percent expecting to have less budget and over 50 percent expecting to have less IT headcount this year than last. Despite this, most (52.7 percent) of the respondents also anticipated they’ll be expected to do more with less. This is an incredibly challenging environment, and requires us as a profession to work smarter, not harder. I’m looking forward to working with our customers to help tackle these complex issues.”

Key findings from Illumio's survey:

Only 21.3 percent of IT projects remain unaffected from the impacts of COVID-19. About half of respondents reported that projects are either paused or reduced in scope.
Of the projects that are on track for the new year, 72.5 percent focus on infrastructure initiatives across the cloud and data centre, while only 27.5 percent will have cybersecurity on their radar.
41.2 percent of IT professionals expect budget cuts.
50 percent report some level of IT headcount reduction as a result of Covid-19.
52.7 percent of respondents believe that despite budgetary and headcount-related challenges, they are expected to advance IT in the coming year.
