How Personal Emergency Response System is Helping Elderly People?

Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS) is designed for the elderly to ensure their safety and comfort while they are in the home or are left unattended in a care facility. The elderly have many personal needs, including personal hygiene. They are also prone to accidents at home, at work, or while playing outdoors.

Personal Emergency Response Systems provides a reliable solution to these problems by keeping elderly citizens safe and comfortable while away from home. Portable personal emergency response or emergency medical response systems enable seniors to wear and carry their emergency alerts (housing the emergency SOS button) both indoors and outdoors.

Unlike traditional home emergency response systems, PERSs are not tied to a personal emergency base station that runs only on their home. Instead, PERS systems are connected to personal computers that are hooked up to a radio frequency transmitter.

With a Personal Emergency Response System, the user will be notified of any type of crisis in which the user is located by a mobile personal emergency responder. The alert is usually sent to the emergency responder or the user's designated contact.

The call will usually remain on hold while the person receives the message and dials 911 to notify the police or other first responders about the situation. When the call is transferred to the appropriate authorities, the responder will investigate the situation and determine whether or not assistance is needed.

Another important component of PERS is the fact that it allows the user to access and control his or her Personal Emergency Response System from anywhere, including vehicles, boats, bikes, planes, and even on foot. While a car or airplane may be a good choice, a boat or a bicycle is usually more convenient for senior citizens, since it allows for a hands-free option while still being easily accessible and able to function as extra transportation.

PERS gives the senior citizen the ability to keep their loved ones safe, while he or she is at home, while he or she is at work, or while he or she is at play. This system allows for the senior citizen to enjoy the freedom to live a normal life, while also maintaining some level of independence, and provides safety and comfort for those that he or she loves the most.

New products have been launched in the market that offer more advanced and sophisticated solutions to caregivers. For instance, in January 2019, Phillips NV introduced Phillps Cares, new app platform to manage and track various task associated with geriatric people including reminders and access to emergency services.

Moreover, in September 2017, Alertone Services LLC introduced Kelsi Pro, which is a mobile medical alert system, in order to keep elderly individuals independent and safe. This system is typically used for geriatric people living alone or prefer to stay independent.

That being said, PERS is a breakthrough solution for the geriatric population and caretakers.
