WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Oct. 12, 2020 - Canadian Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic, John, was not content simply watching the Russia-Ukraine war on Canadian news channels and decided to do something about it. Not just send money or volunteer for a short time to help "the poor Ukrainians" back home but "to really do something".
John decided to join the Ukrainian army to help support the fight against Russian aggression by becoming a tank mechanic and driver. He performed heavy duty mechanic work back home in Ontario, Canada and had a strong work ethic. He was equally diligent in his new duties of repairing and servicing the T-80 tanks he drove for the 80th Airborne Brigade in Ukraine. Mind you, "it's not easy work and it's not for everyone" he says. John received two meritorious medals for his exemplary service there. He was stationed in Eastern Ukraine close by the war zone just in case the enemy broke through the front lines.
The war has gone on since 2014 when Russia's "little green men" first annexed Crimea, then moved its war to the Donbas region of Eastern Ukraine. The photos and videos presented in this interview retell his story. John's service contract expired in 2020 but John is not about to get to comfortable back home in Canada just yet. What will he do next? Watch the video and find out.
