Joshua's Heart Foundation 2020 Virtual Presidential Service Award Ceremony

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Oct. 5, 2020 - "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead". Nelson Mandela

One of the many events Joshua's Heart Foundation's (JHF) volunteers look forward to annually is their service award ceremony. Their 2020 Presidential Service Award Ceremony, which was held Saturday, September 26th, was a huge success where awards were ceremoniously presented by Congresswoman Donna Shalala.

This year due to Covid-19, the award ceremony was held late and virtually. The COVID-19 fallout yielded several challenges, but the youth volunteers of Joshua's Heart continued to thrive. Nothing swayed their determination, nothing! Not giving up a normal school year, not even losing their traditional high school graduations and proms. No, Joshua's Heart young changemakers broke records by forging ahead in its mission to help and support the community during these extremely difficult times with food distributions to aid the needy. These remarkable individuals could have chosen any organization to volunteer with, yet they chose to be a part of the JHF family.

One mission of the Foundation is to inspire and empower youth. Because everyone's attendance was important, the prudent and safest protocol would have been to cancel the ceremony. However, the significance of this moment could not be overlooked, and they proceeded the best way possible by holding the awards via Zoom. The out-pouring of love and support was beyond overwhelming yet not surprising because Joshua's Heart truly is one big happy family. They could not let Covid-19 stand in the way of recognizing these deserving young people and letting them know their importance and what a blessing they are to the Joshua's Heart Team. The much-needed work could not be done without them.

"Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation. Empowered, they can be key agents for development and peace. If, however, they are left on society's margins, all of us will be impoverished. Let us ensure that all young people have every opportunity to participate fully in the lives of their societies." Kofi Annan

Joshua's Heart Foundation (https://joshuasheart.org) (JHF) was founded in 2005 in Miami, Florida by Joshua when he was four and a half years old and is dedicated to the fight against global hunger and poverty. JHF is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit youth run organization, which empowers needy people to improve their quality of life by providing necessities like groceries and personal items. We also effectively engage and educate young people in committing to fight hunger and poverty on a global basis.
