BRISBANE, Australia - Aug. 2, 2020 - A group of Brisbane and Gold Coast bars and nightclubs are being treated with the same COVID killing product used by the London Underground, Hong Kong Airport and even the UK Police, to protect their Queensland staff and patrons.
Hallmark Group venues including Retro's Cocktail Lounges and Finn McCool's in Fortitude Valley and Surfers Paradise, Leftys Music Hall, Asylum Nightclub, and new Gold Coast nightclub, Lost Kingdom, have been treated with an antimicrobial surface disinfectant that kills viruses and germs (including SARS-CoV-2) for up to 30 days.
With patron and staff health and safety the key priority, Hallmark Group general manager Cade Hopman said the group engaged Silix to stop the risk of viral cross contamination.
"Hallmark Group have been exploring all avenues to ensure our venues are COVID-safe for both our staff and patrons as we navigate this pandemic together," Mr Hopman said.
"We engaged a Queensland company, Silix, to treat all venues once a month with the antimicrobial solution Zoono, which creates a surface barrier that kills viruses and other germs for up to 30 days.
"We want to instill confidence in our patrons that we are committed to taking the precautions necessary for them to continue to have fun at all of our venues," he said.
Silix CEO Gerard Murtagh said many hoteliers had struggled with how to safely reopen and comply with the long list of Work Safe requirements.
"Hospitality staff shouldn't have to shoulder the burden of preventing a coronavirus outbreak," Mr Murtagh said. "Hourly wiping with an alcohol-based solution does not do the job.
"Using a long-lasting antimicrobial disinfectant like Zoono is the only way to prevent cross-contamination in high traffic areas."
Research shows coronaviruses can remain infectious for up to five days on metal, glass, paper and ceramic and nine days on plastic. The COVID-19 virus can survive 24 hours on cardboard and 72 hours on stainless steel or plastic surfaces.
"If Queensland wants to reopen for business and get everyone back to work, all businesses should be using long-lasting antimicrobial disinfectants like ours," Mr Murtagh
