Local Businessman and Community Leader Anders Fung Announces Candidacy for Millbrae City Council

MILLBRAE, Calif. - July 1, 2020 - Today, Anders Fung announced that he will run for a seat on the Millbrae City Council in the 2020 election. Anders's campaign already has the backing of Millbrae and regional officials, including Millbrae Mayor Reuben Holobor and three other Millbrae council members, Millbrae School Board Vice President Don Revelo and two other Millbrae School Board trustees, Millbrae Parks and Recreation Commission Chair Julie Turner, San Mateo County Supervisor Dave Pine, San Mateo County Sheriff, Carlos Bolanos, Peninsula Healthcare District Board Member Helen Galligan, and many other endorsers.

Millbrae Mayor Reuben Holobor said, "Anders has the kind of experience that Millbrae needs to create a more vibrant downtown in a way that preserves the unique character of our town while embracing sustainable and innovative urban planning."

"I support Anders, because he delivers results—as a businessman and volunteer. Anders will be an asset on city council. He has what it takes to help Millbrae reach its potential by using what makes our town great—fantastic public safety, a small-town feel, and excellent education," Millbrae City Council Member and Former Mayor Anne Oliva said.

Millbrae School Board Trustee explained, "The Millbrae Elementary School District has established important ties with City government, as well as civic clubs and nonprofits in our town. Through his work in the community, Anders demonstrates the collaborative spirit so valued by our schools."

Anders launches his campaign from a strong position. He has a committed team of local volunteers and an experienced team of advisors. With the official start of the campaign, Anders will expand and accelerate his outreach to Millbrae citizens and businesses. The campaign has plans to meet people across town—in person with appropriate social distancing and virtually via online meetings and phone calls.

Anders has lived in Millbrae with his wife and two children since 2009. He serves as a Millbrae Planning Commissioner and served as chair from 2019-2020. While a planning commissioner, Millbrae approved two Transit-Oriented Development projects, negotiated for low-income housing, pushed developers to increase buildings' sustainability, and advocated for union labor and teacher housing. His professional work combines economic development and housing development with a focus on fiscal responsibility and budget optimization. A Millbrae resident for more than a decade, Anders understands what makes Millbrae ideal for families and he is committed to protecting and improving it.

Anders has an open-door policy for both his business and civic service work. If you'd like to talk about what's on your mind, Anders would love to talk with you about how what can be done to support Millbrae and the regional communities.
