HAMPTON, Va. - June 23, 2020 - Did you know that there are 29 different classifications for non-profits and 501c3 is only one of them? Or that the IRS monitors your non-profit for the first three to seven years even after you receive your 501c3 status? Do you know the difference between a non-profit vs for-profit business and which one is right for you?
28-Year Non-Profit Director and Consultant, Elder Deloris Pettaway, teaches young entrepreneurs the pros and cons of a non-profit as well as the various complexities of such organizations. Using the example of her 28-year non-profit Crusading Outreach Ministry Inc., she also provides a lesson of what minorities faced when creating their non-profit. She also demonstrates how each student's vision or idea might be the beginning of a non-profit organization. For more information, please visit her website DDPServices.org.
With the support of the City of Hampton Violence Prevention Mini-Grant Program, the 4-week non-profit Young Achievers Excellence Virtual Program teaches City of Hampton middle school students how to take their dreams, passions as well as frustrations and turn them into platforms of advocacy, expression and entrepreneurship.
During this program, students will make presentations; interview youth and adult entrepreneurs as well as pitch their business ideas. Graduates will be given a business plan roadmap workbook as well.
