Safety Harbor Restaurant Brings Food and Love to Tampa Bay Area Hospitals

TAMPA, Fla. - March 30, 2020 - Gigglewaters Social Club & Screening Room is partnering with local businesses and community members to deliver catered luncheons to first responders during the COVID-19 crisis. Citizens can send food to the front lines from the safety of their living rooms now that Pinellas and Hillsborough counties are under a Safer at Home order.

In a time of stress and uncertainty, one Safety Harbor restaurant is helping mobilize an effort to get food- and love- delivered to front lines. Gigglewaters owners Richie and Rachel Wilson are working to bring catered lunches to hospitals and first reponders as a way to show support to the very people who need it most.

"This has been a difficult time for everyone", Rachel said. "We're all struggling with our new reality. While many people are staying home, restaurants are considered 'essential services' because people always need to eat. We've been feeding groups of police officers, firefighters, doctors and nurses who don't have time to go home and cook a meal. We thought about that and realized we wanted to make an impact in a bigger way."

The idea started when Alison and Grant Krapf from Krapf Legal contacted Gigglewaters, asking if they could place a large To Go order for the Emergency Room doctors and nurses at Mease Countryside Hospital. Gigglewaters sprung into action, feeding 30 health care workers. The experience was a game changer for Wilson. "I got my team together and told them we needed to approach every organization we've worked with, everyone who's thrown private parties here and ask them to help us do something meaningful."

Gigglewaters is asking their corporate partners, Tampa area businesses and anyone with the means to reach out. "We'll do all the leg work. We'll find the hospital administrator, we'll organize the delivery, we'll cook and deliver the food. We'll even include a personal note if you like. We'll send you pictures of the entire event. All you have to do is contact us. From the safety of your living room." Wilson continued, "We all want to help. Here's an easy way to make a difference in the lives of the people on the front lines".

Gigglewaters opened in May of 2018 and has won numerous awards, including Best New Restaurant, Best Cocktails, Best Brunch and more. They launched their fundraising effort, "Giggles for Good", last year, raising more than $10,000 for local charities and Australian wildfire relief.
