SEAFORD, Del. - Jan. 31, 2020 - Brent Rickkins from Seaford High school in the class of 2023 is already the premier guard in the state regardless of class, who is averaging nearly 20 points per game as freshman playing in front of packed crowds and under the lights of every news outlet in the area and still continues to perform as level that is opening the eye's of scouts and colleges alike.
What has made this story even more interesting is that the high major guard has made the determination to test his skills against the highest level of competition in the world of youth basketball by agreeing to take his talents to NIKE EYBL under one of his favorite player's umbrella; Baltimore based Team Melo.
Rikkins, who humbly refers to himself as "just a kid from Delaware" is a scoring and playmaking guard who is only just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. He's got good perimeter size at 6'4 and hasn't stopped growing yet or even begun to fill out his frame. Yet he's already capable of scoring in bunches as on all three levels.
He has a naturally soft shooting touch and is equally effective shooting off the catch or the dribble either from behind the arc or in the mid-range area. He can wiggle into his pull-up but can also be explosive attacking the rim north to south. He's more of a wing right now but even has the potential to evolve into a lead guard down the road.
Coach Francis of Team Melo says "Brent is one of the best young guards in his class, his demeanor and approach to the game is a throwback, he plays with a focused energy and emotion and attacks you possession after possession. That relentless style wear's on a team and a defense and translates to winning basketball Brent imposes is will on opponents."
The fact that Rickkins has chosen to do this on the biggest stage the country will only solidify his national standing and profile which inevitably will open doors for him at the college level. When you think of Delaware basketball you think of Trevon Duval, recent lottery pick DiVincenzo and more recently Providence commit Jyare Davis; you must add Rickkins to that list as he will be the next star that will come out this area.
