New law allows Tennesseans to take their Concealed Carry Permit Class Online

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Dec. 25, 2019 - In July of 2019 legislature was introduced, passed, and signed by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, allowing Tennessee residents to take a State approved online class to obtain their Tennessee Concealed Carry Permit.

Carrytn.com offers the new online class and is one of the very few courses to have been approved by the State of Tennessee to offer the online version for this new permit type. At the time of this posting, it also the only online Tennessee Carry Permit class, known to us, actually available for Tennesseans to begin the new permit process.

The Tennessee Concealed Carry Permit only allows permit holders to carry their handguns in concealment such as inside the waistband, pocket, or purse. Permit holders may not carry their handguns openly visible to the public.

Tennessee residents can take the online class at CarryTN.com as of a week ago and may begin submitting their certificates of completion from the course to the State on January 1, 2020. The Certification issued by CarryTN.com is valid for one year from the date of completion.

Some benefits of the online version are: You can take the class at your leisure, from the comfort of your home. The class is only 90 minutes long and you can do the class over a period of time, versus the Enhanced Carry Permit class which requires 8 hours of in person instruction in a real classroom setting. You do not have to spend any range time qualifying on a target.

Some disadvantages of the class are: You don't get the interactive discussion as when you are in a class full of students with questions. You are limited to only carrying concealed. Those who take the eight hour in person class can obtain the Tennessee Enhanced Carry Permit which allows for both open and concealed carry.

Final thoughts: Most people do carry concealed, so the online class offered by carrytn.com may be a good option for a lot of Tennesseans. If you have no experience with handguns, or, you prefer to carry openly, you should opt for the 8 hour in person class.
