Oregon Receives New Opioid Response Funding

December 03, 2019 - Each clinic receives $167,000 to increase access to substance abuse and mental health treatments. Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.) champions the grant as part of the national opioid response. “This money is just one aspect of the fight,” he said in a news release. “As Republican leader of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I will continue to work hard and lead the way on combating the opioid epidemic.”

The new funding also joins the 2018 Support for Patients and Communities Act. That law expanded medically-assisted treatments (MATs), championed preventive anti-opioid measures, strengthened law enforcement response to illicit opioids, and prepared both cities and communities to combat fentanyl. Oregon’s new grant funding provides will provide similar MAT access for its opioid treatment clinics.
