Recent months have introduced immense changes in the Saudi Arabia immigration landscape; including the release of the tourist e-visa, the issuing of the first permanent residencies to foreigners and the new business visa.
The changing immigration landscape calls for individuals and companies to remain up-to-date and compliant with the changes. Here’s the changes that have occurred and how they might affect you.
Tourist e-visa
The government released the tourist e-visa earlier this year that allows individuals to enter the Kingdom for tourism purposes. The e-visa is strictly for leisure purposes and shouldn’t be used as an alternative for other Saudi visit visas. Remaining compliant is essential in Saudi, if you are travelling for business reasons, choose the corresponding visa.
Foreign permanent residency
The new residency programme in Saudi Arabia allows foreigners to do business and buy property in the Kingdom without a Saudi sponsor. As the government wants to attract more foreign investors to do business in the Kingdom, this residency permit will encourage foreign investors to stay in the Kingdom on a long term basis.
The first batch of foreigners have been issued their visas and it allows them to exit the Kingdom, switch jobs and sponsor their families to live in the Kingdom. Seventy-three individuals were granted the visas from 19 countries, with the professions of financiers, doctors and investors.
New business visa
Saudi Arabia recently combined their commercial and business (work) visit visa into the new business visa. This visa allows individuals to attend business meetings, negotiations and investment talks.
