The Library of Congress Veterans History Project on Tuesday, Sept. 10 will bring together a panel of U.S. Army Aeromedical evacuation (MEDEVAC) changemakers for an unprecedented discussion on the evolution of technology, safety, quality of care and culture within their field. The dialogue will also explore ways that military aeromedical evacuations have influenced and advanced both military and civilian operations.

Free and open to the public, the event will be held in room LJ-119 of the Library's Thomas Jefferson Building, located at 10 First St. S.E., Washington, D.C. Seating is limited; RSVPs are strongly advised. Email vohp@loc.gov with the Subject: "MEDEVAC Panel" for reservations and more information.

The panel will be moderated by Chas Henry, who is the host of ConnectingVets and CBS News "Eye on Veterans," and a combat-decorated Marine Corps veteran of the 1991 Gulf War. Panelists include both retired Vietnam Dustoff pilots and active duty Army Aviators: Colonel Merle Snyder (USA, Retired); Colonel Douglas Moore (USA, Retired); Lieutenant Colonel Paul Roley, USA Executive Officer to the Commanding General, Regional Health Command – Atlantic; and Lieutenant Colonel Nathan Forrester, USA Battalion commander of the 82nd General Support Aviation Battalion.

The advent of MEDEVAC has saved the lives of countless U.S. military soldiers. From the Vietnam War to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, MEDEVAC aircraft and crews have enabled crews to rapidly get wounded soldiers out of the frontlines, and safely into a hospital facility for treatment.

Congress created the Veterans History Project (VHP) in 2000 to collect, preserve and make accessible the firsthand remembrances of America's war veterans from WWI through the more recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. For more information, visit loc.gov/vets/ (http://www.loc.gov/vets/) or call the toll-free message line at (888) 371-5848. Subscribe to the VHP RSS to receive periodic updates of VHP news.
