Using a special X-ray imaging, called fluoroscopy, your doctor will put a tube through the fracture, into the bone. The balloon tamp is then removed. A bone cement is then inserted through the tube into the vertebra. This bone cement hardens into a bone-like material and restores a strong, solid vertebra. If needed, the doctor may repeat this procedure on the other side, or on another affected vertebra.

Once the vertebrae have been repaired, the incision will be closed and dressed, and you’ll be taken to a recovery room till the anesthesia wears away. Your doctor may recommend icing the area and/or prescribe oral anti-inflammatory medication.
