Mondo providing track for Footspeed competition at Aug. 23 Saint Sabina Block Party

CHICAGO - Aug. 21, 2019 - Mondo, the leading provider of sports tracks, will provide a state-of-the-art running track for a Footspeed competition. The exciting contest for children will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Block Party hosted Saint Sabina Church in Renaissance Park on the city's South Side.

The leader in sport track innovation and expertise, Mondo is providing a one-lane, portable straightaway with a Mondotrack WS track surface—the official track of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games—for the Footspeed competition.

Part of a national competition looking to reward humans who run fast recently launched by Raycom Sports and Rich Christensen Media, the Footspeed competition at the block party will give kids a chance to compete for cash and prizes if they can run at least 20 mph through a 24-foot section of the track. Olympian and American heptathlete Shelia Burrell will serve as master of ceremonies for the competition.

Mondo, which also supplies running tracks for numerous national and international track and field events, has the unique capability to take high-performing and fully certified tracks to street events and other events where they are needed to showcase the sport of track and field in fun environments where fans can truly be a part of the action in a festival environment.

Mondo's participation in the Saint Sabina block party complements its recent selection by the Chicago Park District to provide the running track for Chicago's new Gately Indoor Track & Field facility in the nearby Pullman neighborhood. Scheduled to open in 2020, the venue will be the first in Illinois with a hydraulic banked track. It also is a part of its Mondo Cares program, which emphasizes the company's longstanding commitment to global social responsibility and encompasses community service initiatives and partnerships with like-minded entities. The program's goal is to empower people to be champions on, and beyond, the surface.

Saint Sabina is a Catholic Church and faith community led by Pastor Michael Pfleger. The mostly African American parish and "community of love, education and service" hosts numerous "peace, justice & community" events throughout the year. In addition to the Footspeed competition, the Saint Sabina Block Party will feature music, dancing, games for children, basketball, and food. It is free and open to the public. Renaissance Park is located at 1300 W. 79th Street in Chicago.

Event organizers, communities and corporations interested in having the Mondo portable track system at their events are invited to contact the company at mondo@mondousa.com or 800-361-3747.
