Brain Health Doctor pleads, "Stop any more McCann Utu Jrs from Happening!"

Author and sports concussion healing expert Dr. Joanny Liu is challenging medical authorities to stop researching and start looking at the answers they already have in research done on neuroscience and all its branches in the last 25 years.

According to researchers, Michael Fralick, Deva Thiruchelvam, Homer C. Tien, and Donald A. Redelmeier, stated in CMAJ, February 8, 2016, their study of 235,110 patients with a concussion found €œAdults with a diagnosis of concussion had an increased long-term risk of suicide, particularly after concussions on weekends. Greater attention to the long-term care of patients after a concussion in the community might save lives because deaths from suicide can be prevented." http://www.cmaj.ca/content/early/2016/02/08/cmaj.150790

Others such as David J Sharp and Peter O Jenkins, in Practical Neurology 2015;15:3, state that €œThere is confusion about acute assessment and treatment, as well as uncertainty about the prevalence of neurodegenerative complications and the 'dose' of TBI needed to produce them. We need clinical research to answer these questions, and clear guidelines about the acute management of mild TBI. Both of these goals are hampered by the confusion that surrounds the use of the term concussion." http://pn.bmj.com/content/15/3/172.full

Dr. Joanny Liu goes on to say, €œInstead of focusing on unimportant things such as naming a disease, we need to focus on what creates neuroplasticity inside the brain to trigger healing. Teachers don't tell kids to write a test without making sure they've covered the material in class. Yet, for a health issue such as concussion someone like McCann Utu Jr. had to pass tests for Return to Play, with no way to actually pass the tests. The usual "treatment" for concussion is complete rest and stop doing anything. This is not a treatment but an admission that they don't know what to do. In McCann Utus Jr.'s case, his own family and friends saw how it changed him when he could no longer participate in the sport he loved, in going back to a normal life. Actually returning to a normal life and allowing him to decide for himself is the more common sense approach. But now we have this tragedy that cannot be reversed. We need to focus on how to change the brain and that must include what we are thinking and feeling because the brain is a thinking and a feeling organ. The result are the good and bad consequences that come out of those thoughts. The information already exists, albeit it takes an open mind to see the connections."
