Hundreds Take Advantage of Free Parking for Lion King Matinee in Schenectady

Nearly three weeks into its wildly successful Schenectady engagement, The Lion King production at Proctors Theatre has inspired other downtown businesses to offer free parking to Lion King ticket holders forThursday's matinee. Hundreds of theatre patrons took advantage of the offer for the sold out show. Proctors estimates that the entire run of The Lion King, which ends this weekend, brought more than 81,000 people to downtown Schenectady over the course of its run.

[The Lion King](http://www.theatreticketbank.com/west-end/the-lion-king-tickets), one of Broadway's most successful Disney musical productions, is concurrently running at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway and The Lyceum Theatre in London's West End. The touring show will be ending its month-long run in Schenectady on April 17, and move on to the Altria Theatre in Richmond, VA. The Richmond premiere of the show at 7:30 April 19 is officially sold out, but tickets are available through the secondary market.

The live musical brought the 1994 Disney film of the same name to the stage in a 1997 Minneapolis run. The play moved to Broadway four months later, in November 1997, where it ran at the New Amsterdam Theatre until June 2006. The Lion King moved to the Minskoff Theatre, where it is still running, making it the third longest running show in Broadway history. It also holds the record for highest grossing Broadway production of all time, racking up more than $1 billion in total ticket sales.

The Lion King's West End production opened at the Lyceum Theatre in 1999, and is still running. As of 2014, Disney's The Lion King became the top grossing title of all time across film and theater rights, out grossing Phantom of the Opera to take the top spot.

€œIt's a familiar story with a built-in fan base," explained one industry insider. €œThe play reprises music that today's parents grew up with and are thrilled to introduce to their own children. It's no wonder that The Lion King tickets sell out so quickly in every venue."

[The Lion King tickets](http://www.theatreticketbank.com/west-end/the-lion-king-tickets) for the remaining shows in Schenectady are still available through third party ticket sellers, such as TheatreTicketBank.com, where patrons can also buy tickets for The Lion King on Broadway, in London and at future shows on The Lion King tour schedule.
