Custom Handmade Jewelry is a Form of Art in York, Pennsylvan

Earlier today, The Watchmaker's Daughter announced the release of a handmade jewelry line featuring curated stones such as citrine and tourmaline. The main aim is to bring a unique style that reflects both art and fashion... but it does so with a difference. Karen Staub (Reiss), jewelry artist and owner of The Watchmaker's Daughter, states, "Many of our custom-made jewelry items are fabricated by manipulating metal, texturing, and soldering components. No casting is done on any of my pieces. This piece is part of a collection getting back to the roots of alchemy and the process of melting gold and manipulating it into organic forms, and setting stones into molten metal. We wanted to try something new with handmade jewelry creations featuring curated stones. Anyone familiar with the custom handmade jewelry market will probably have noticed how everyone else seems to follow the same trend of using laser cutters and crafting items to create novelty jewelry. This is a problem because many people are unaware of the elegance and uniqueness an artisan jeweler can create and the many stone and gem options available." So as a welcome breath of fresh air, handmade jewelry creations featuring curated stones will instead take a curated artistic approach to jewelry. For example, the jeweler focused on several art-inspired aspects with the popular Vintage White Gold Mother of Pearl and Multi Gemstone Flower Pendant. This vintage pendant is a carved piece of mother of pearl that resembles a flower. It has detailed petals, and in the center are all the birthstones creating a colorful inner ring of purple, yellow, red, blue, and green. There's even a little center diamond to add a splash of sparkle to the innermost ring of the white gold flower. The bail opens up so it can fit it over many different chain thicknesses. When the term mother of pearl is used in jewelry, it does not refer to all nacre, including a pearl's coating. It relates instead to the nacre that coats the inside layer of the mollusk shell. Mother of pearl set into jewelry comprises only a thin layer of sediment similar to a boulder opal. This thin layer can be carved or cut into cabochon-like shapes. Mother of Pearl is known to be the ultimate bringer of divine wisdom and intuition. It has a calming effect on emotions and the body too. It can bring balance to the lungs, heart, liver, kidneys, and adrenal glands. It is also known to be very supportive of pregnant women and new mothers due to its powerful feminine energy. Mother of Pearl brings balance to hormones and lightens negative moods too.. The Watchmaker's Daughter chose to make this move because they wanted something inspiring and unique for Mother's Day and something to symbolize the strength of motherhood. Karen Staub (Reiss) also said, "We want to give our customers a piece of jewelry that blends with their personality and sense of fashion. With handmade jewelry creations featuring curated stones, they have a fresh new possibility. We want them to feel understood and unique using handmade jewelry creations featuring curated stones. Trying something new is always a risk, but it's a risk we believe is worth taking." The Watchmaker's Daughter has been in business for over 75 years, being established in 1945. The Reiss tradition of jewelers dates back three generations to the World War II era. George Reiss opened a small jewelry store above the Woolworth 5 & 10 store on West Market Street in downtown York. In 1945, George found his start in selling watches, grandfather clocks, jewelry, and small appliances in the shop he named for his family - Reiss Jewelers. George was busy repairing watches and jewelry for loyal friends and customers inside the store. At the same time, his loving wife, Mary, kept the business records and added her personal touches to the quiet little shop. They both served their customers cheerfully and knowledgeably for almost fifty years. George and Mary's son, Max, began working at his father's store at age twelve. Max went on to study the watchmaking trade at Bowman Technical School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In 1965, growth offered the opportunity to relocate the family business to a first-floor downtown storefront across the street from the bustling merchants in the thriving stands at Central Market. North Beaver Street has been the home of York's preferred downtown jeweler for over a half-century. They hold with great pride the knowledge that Reiss Jewelers is the only jewelry store to successfully push through hard times to witness the rebirth of a new downtown York. The Reiss family has served the York County community for over seventy years - sharing its expertise in fine jewelry and dependable timepieces. The family tradition continues with Max's daughter, Karen Reiss Staub, who learned the trade from her father and began working with him in 1997. Over the years, Karen has developed her line of custom jewelry bearing the time-honored family name "Karen Reiss Designs." Karen is proud to continue the family tradition of quality and integrity that began over seventy years ago. She continually seeks to bring her spirit, art, and innovations to the jewelry store her family built while honoring its rich history.
