TeKay Designs appoints model with disability as Brand Ambassador

Deborah Grayson Carpenter, a model with a disability, was appointed as Brand Ambassador for TeKay Designs - an international fashion design label based in Houston Texas. The announcement of Deborah's ambassadorship was issued by Fashion Designer Kimma Wreh of TeKay Designs during African Fashion Week Houston at the Ayva Center on August 22, 2015 where Deborah was featured in a custom TeKay Designs blue lace top and floral skirt.

"It brings me great joy that Mrs. Carpenter is a brand ambassador for TeKay Designs. She is a model with a disability who is trailblazing at fashion events in Houston. Deborah is not allowing her disability to hinder her fashion goals. She has modeled on numerous occasions for TeKay Designs and has worn TeKay Design's custom clothing. TeKay Designs is an active supporter of disability inclusion and women empowerment in the fashion industry." stated Wreh.

“It’s a true honor to be chosen as TeKay Designs Brand Ambassador. She is a world renowned fashion designer icon. This is a major step to showing the importance of disability inclusion in fashion. Hopefully other designers, retailers, etc. will take notice and follow. It is my personal goal to empower other women with disabilities to never give up on their dreams.” stated Mrs. Carpenter.

Since her first birthday, when she was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) – Type 1, Deborah Grayson Carpenter has been defying great odds. In spite of this news, her parents were very adamant about instilling in her a positive mindset of, “though you might have to do things a little differently, you can be whomever and do whatever you want.”

Deboray Grayson Carpenter was the first model with a disability to model in the Houston Intercontinental Bridal Show and Young Houston Magazine fashion show at Mercedes Benz North Houston wearing TeKay Designs. Deborah is also Ms. Wheelchair Texas Ambassador, and The National Spinal Cord Injury Association of Houston (NSCIAH) Ambassador.

Mrs. Carpenter hopes to inspire young girls and women that “if I can do it, anyone can.” Deborah is helping to pave the way and make it easier for them. Deborah is a huge success story and an inspiration to all, for she has the mindset of a true winner, motivated to be great no matter what. This is a reminder to all, that you can truly become who and what you want to be, no matter your circumstance.
