Kevin Durant Injury – How will it affect the playoff run!?

TAMPA, Fla. -- Dr. Marc Katz drafted an article regarding Kevin Durant and another foot injury setback experienced by the pro player (http://www.thetampapodiatrist.com/blog/kevin-durant-foot-injury/). Durant, an MVP is known for his persistence even when injured. However, a foot injury can equate to the end of a successful career.

Dr. Katz explained Durant suffered a fracture of the foot known as a Jones fracture. This type of fracture is known to be problematic and often associated with prolonged bone healing. Durant’s fracture was dealt with uneventfully, and a screw was used to fix the fracture. Expectations had been clear that Kevin Durant, a world class competitor would be back quickly and could continue his superstar career. But nature does not alter its course for even a top-notch, highly regarded and highly paid athlete.

“This is a great example of what happens in a real day to day podiatry practice,” said Dr. Marc Katz of Advanced Podiatry in Tampa. “Regular people come in with fractures and no matter whom they are, their body will require 4-6 weeks to heal a fracture. With a Jones fracture, the recovery time may be significantly longer.”

Dr. Marc Katz explained that in an injury like the one suffered by Durant, patients are told they will need to be in a healing boot and, when they require surgery, a screw will be used to hold the fragments firmly for the best healing. Injuries will occasionally morph into nightmare scenarios like Kevin Durant experienced, when the screw began to irritate his foot as it pressed against another bone. The irritation caused unbearable pain, thereby complicating his healing process immensely.

This meant Durant was initially injured in October, and now it’s March, and he has been forced to have a second procedure to remove the old screw and a place a new screw in the foot. This is a major setback for the player his team.

“So when you are out there doing your regular exercise or weekend warrior activities remember to treat your feet well and protect yourself,” Dr. Marc Katz finished.
