Kalani High School Senior Receives Grant to Chase Dream of Flying

HONOLULU - May 8, 2021 - Levin So, 17, of Honolulu, Hawaii, has always loved airplanes, but it only took a few flight lessons at Barbers Points Flight School to confirm his dream to fly and become a professional pilot. Sparked by his family's love of travel, and lunch breaks at the end of the reef runway at HNL airport to feel the rumble of the engines, Levin moved onto flight simulators and now to flying a

plane himself. "I love the view from my airplane when I am flying, it's so much better than from the back of a commercial airliner." Levin is excited to start the cross-county phase of his training where he

will venture out to the neighbor islands first with his instructor and then flying solo. Levin was awarded a grant from the Lyons Aviation Foundation whose mission is to support and encourage the next generation of pilots and aviators through offering financial scholarships. The grant will provide the funds to complete his private pilot certification, the first step on his journey to becoming a professional pilot. What started for Levin as watching planes take off and land is now his life's passion. "After

dreaming of flying for so long, I am so excited to be on my way to becoming a Commercial Airline Pilot and so thankful that my hard work is already paying off with a scholarship."

About The Lyons Aviation Foundation:

The Lyons Aviation Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non profit private foundation that exists to support and encourage the next generation of pilots and aviators through offering financial scholarships to deserving young persons who are pursuing their Private Pilot Certificate. The Lyons family has been involved in and maintained a history of aviation-related careers for over 65 years. The Lyons Aviation Foundation story started with Rolf C. Lyons, when he entered military service at the age of 17, enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1955, with his sons later following in his footsteps. This foundation was born out of a desire to give back to the aviation community and the future pilots, mechanics, and engineers working in the field by providing an opportunity to those that might not otherwise have the means to pursue aviation as a career path. This foundation is a living tribute to a family story and its ties to aviation, military service, and one another. More information can be found at www.lyonsaviation.org.
